Cliff Lede Winery, Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013 (750ml)
(90% Cabernet Sauvignon/6% Petit Verdot/2% Malbec/1% Merlot/1% Cabernet Franc). Fruit sourced from the estate’s Twin Peaks Ranch and Poetry Vineyard was cold soaked for approximately five days. During fermentation, the wine received regular delestage, pump overs and punch downs after which it was macerated for 3-4 weeks. Matured for 17 months in French oak (60% new), the wine offers aromas of blackberry liqueur, espresso, roses and truffle oil. Creamy and opulent flavors of semi-sweet chocolate, mocha, and plum are buttressed by fresh minerality and medium-length tannins. Established in 2002, Cliff Lede is located in the renowned Stags Leap district of Napa Valley, California. Owner Cliff Lede, associate winemaker Kale Anderson and consulting winemaker Philippe Melka farm and manage this 60 acre property. A gravity-flow winery was completed in 2005 and features a berry by berry sorting system and conical tanks inspired by those used at Chateau Latour in Bordeaux. Each vineyard block is vinified separately in stainless steel tanks and the barrels are single stacked to allow for easy access. The winery produces Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon of which the flagship, Poetry Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from the steep hillside portion of the estate.
